Information I have been finding. Some places reference a 'wine dx10' and some game forum posts say to install directx 10 or 11 (depending on the game/video card) via winetricks. I am leery of trying random changes to my Wine installation when I haven't been able to find instructions on the Wine site for this to verify the steps. Download DirectX for Wine for free. A set of patches against WINE to implement DirectX 9 allowing Modern Games and 3D applications to run under WINE. The patches include many experimental and beta features that have not yet made it into the stable WINE source tree.

Wine has its own directX implementation. Installing MS DirectX is not a good idea ad can actually break things or make things run worse. It can help with some games, but you shouldn't do it unless the game will not work without it. That doesn't mean the game says it wants directx that you should install it. You should only install it if, and only if the directX in Wine is not working right. Installing d3dx9 is just using a few dll files from DX9, not installing all of directX. Do it if you game errors related to those specific dlls.

Most games will run better without MS DirectX 9 installed than with it.

There are still some DX11 things that don't work, but I can adjust all the gfx settings in WoW now except for one. (I'm at work and I don't remember the name of the setting.) So I'd say it's 'almost there'. It seems though, that CodeWeavers don't agree. Most interested parties have noticed by now that DirectX 11 support is not included in CrossOver 15.
